Meet the team

Maurice Cummings BDS MMedSc MOrth RCS (Eng) is a registered Specialist in Orthodontics. He is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, the British Dental Association and the Northern Orthodontic Group.

Mo established Finaghy Orthodontics in 1997 with James Lundy and they along with Ali and Mark has continued to ensure that the practice remains at the forefront of the provision of orthodontic care in Northern Ireland. He is a certified user of the Invisalign Aligner system, Inman Aligners and Incognito lingual appliances. He has kept abreast of advances in treatment techniques including the use of mini-implants to aid correction in complex malocclusions. As an experienced clinician he is able offer a wide range of treatment options to cater for the needs of both adults and children.

Outside the clinical setting Mo has lectured on orthodontic matters to GDPs and DFTs on behalf of Local Dental Committees and Finaghy Orthodontics. He also holds positions in a number of panels involved in preparing sixth form students for entrance interviews to undergraduate medical and dental courses.

James Lundy BDS MMedSc MOrth RCS (Eng) is a registered Specialist in Orthodontics. James is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, Northern Ireland Orthodontic Group and the British Dental Association. He is also on the Dental Practitioners Committee of the BDA as an orthodontic observer/adviser.

James has owned and run a Specialist Referral Orthodontic Practice in Finaghy, Belfast since 1995. Over the last 23 years he has developed his skills and experience to carry out complex orthodontic treatment for the patients of his GDP colleagues both under the NHS and privately. As a certified user of both Invisalign and Orthocaps clear aligners, Inman Aligners and Incognito lingual appliances, as well as the latest generation of 3M Ceramic brackets he has developed an interest providing discreet orthodontic treatment where this is possible. As a consequence an increasing part of his practice involves providing orthodontic treatment solutions for adults as well as children.

Over the past 10 years James has been involved in negotiations with the Department of Health through the Dental Practice Committee (BDA) helping to shape how orthodontic care is delivered by the NHS. He has also lectured on orthodontic matters to GDPs and DFTs on behalf of NIMDTA and Finaghy Orthodontics.

Away from work he is keen on films (he is really a frustrated film director) and most weekends can be found mountain biking on the trails in Barnett’s Desmesne, and has the bruises to prove it!

Ali is a registered specialist in orthodontics and is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, Northern Ireland Orthodontic Group, British Dental Association and Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Ali joined James and Mo at Finaghy Orthodontics in 2002. Within the practice Ali enjoys all aspects of clinical orthodontic care and is an accredited provider of Invisalign and Inman Aligner Systems. Along with James and Mo, Ali provides outreach teaching within the practice for 3^rd year dental students from Queens University.

Outside the practice Ali works part-time in the School of Dentistry as a Consultant Orthodontist, also lecturing to 3^rd and 4^th year dental students. Beyond this he lectures regularly on behalf of NIMDTA to Foundation Trainees and GDPs.

When not working Ali enjoys playing 5-a-side football and tennis.

Mark graduated from the University of Dundee as a dentist in 2003. After completing a year of vocational training he worked in the Community Dental Services then the Hospital Services gaining experience in restorative, periodontology, paediatric, orthodontic, oral medicine and oral and maxillofacial surgery.

He completed his MFDS in 2005 and is now an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He started his orthodontic training in 2009 in Leeds and passed the MOrth RCSEng. During his orthodontic training he also graduated with a Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry from the University of Leeds.

He worked as a University lecturer in Orthodontics before returning back to Northern Ireland to work in Finaghy Orthodontics.
